MONTREAL, QC, November 17, 2025 – CanVECTOR, the Canadian Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Research Network, is pleased to announce the launch of its Fall 2025 funding competitions. The network is now accepting applications for the 2025 Pilot Study Funding Opportunity, 2025 Research-Start-Up Awards, and the 2025-26 Fellowship Awards (in partnership with Thrombosis Canada).
These competitions are designed to advance research capacity, support trainees, and gather critical data in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of venous thromboembolism.
1. 2025 Pilot Study Funding Opportunity
The goal of the Pilot Study Funding Opportunity is to enable CanVECTOR scientists to collect preliminary data essential for securing larger external funding and informing definitive multicentre randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Total Available Funding: A total of $150,000 is available to fund one or more pilot studies.

Focus: Studies must be designed to assess the feasibility of a planned full-scale RCT at multiple CanVECTOR sites, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of VTE or its long-term effects.

Eligibility: At least one of the investigators must be a CanVECTOR member.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2026 (midnight, principal applicant’s time zone).
2. 2025 Research Start-Up Awards
These awards provide operating funds to support trainees in achieving their research objectives, covering essential services, materials, or supplies for a research project or preliminary work.

Award Amount: Up to $2,500 CAD in research support.

Eligibility: Must be a trainee (medical student, resident, graduate student, fellow) conducting research under the supervision of a CanVECTOR member. Priority will be given to first-time applicants.

3. 2025-26 Fellowship Awards
In conjunction with Thrombosis Canada, CanVECTOR is offering financial support for highly qualified clinicians pursuing dedicated research training in thromboembolism at a Canadian Centre. Two types of fellowships are available: the CanVECTOR Fellowship Awards and the Thrombosis Canada-CanVECTOR Fellowship Awards.

Award Amount: Maximum of $50,000 CAD in salary support.

Eligibility: Applicants must be clinicians pursuing research training at a Canadian centre related to VTE.

Special Focus: The Thrombosis Canada-CanVECTOR Fellowship is specifically focused on knowledge translation and/or clinical outcomes research.
